Sunbirdies have a Spring in their Step

Hazel Morley reports:

Another week just flew by and, oh, what a week it was!

The first day of spring was celebrated indoors as the rain poured down. It did not dampen our spirits though, as we busied ourselves making flowers and bugs.  Our Grade R's were also privileged to see their tadpole grow his back legs this week. On Friday we celebrated spring by donning our spring bonnets. Our wonderful parents went the extra mile in creativity when making the bonnets. One mom, Mitsy Bell, baked cupcakes for her ‘Bakerman' son and decorated them with edible flowers and spiders. They were not only beautiful, but delicious too.

There has been great excitement around the school for the last few weeks as we caught glimpses of the Foundation Phase children kitted out in the most magnificent costumes. We were finally able to see The Button Box for ourselves and the children enjoyed every minute. There are certainly some budding actors and actresses at Sunbird who cannot wait for their turn on stage.

The Grade R's are getting ready for their final term in pre-school and have lately been learning to tie their shoe laces, reciting their telephone numbers and addresses and singing the alphabet. They have been working in co-op groups and have shown just how ready they are for formal schooling. An exciting time for all.

Oink, bleat and moo

Hazel Morley reports:

Oink, bleat and moo were the order of the day and with lifts arranged, despite the ominous looking weather, we set off for The Barnyard.

On arrival, the children dispersed in all directions. Some headed for the jumping castle, others went to the jungle gyms, and the animal lovers visited the petting area where they were invited to hold rabbits, guinea pigs and jittery hens. The children were given two packets of seeds each to feed the farm animals, some sprinkled their packets over the ground while others bravely fed the chickens, goats and ponies out of their hands.

Sincere thanks to The Barnyard owners, Sam and Andrew Hart, for this lovely morning.

Slithery, scaley, cold creatures

This week we learnt about cold and scaley animals and the Grade 0's thoroughly enjoyed tucking into the paint in order to make their scaley snakes. The Grade R's learnt about the life cycle of the frog and proudly displayed their art. Please feel free to come and view their pond backdrop.
